The Theory Behind the Rhetoric

I must confess, with the completion of the presidential campaign my viewpoint of Christian Republicans have changed...and not for the better. Let me back track a bit, when George Bush was running for president in 2000 and 2004. The general consensus of white Evangelists (the backers of GWB and John McCain) was this, 1. GWB was a praying president and a born-again Christian 2. GWB was against abortion Therefore, GWB was the Christian's president. Because of this, I was told it was my "Christian duty" to vote (for GWB). I was also told, or... I should say, it was implied that those who voted democratic were not Christian. "How can anyone who calls themselves Christian vote for someone who is for abortion?" is the rhetorical question of this group. They claim to fear, or concern themselves with the "moral" direction that America is heading. They pride themselves on the American history, the fact that it was founded by "Christian" f...

God Told Me...

The problem with date-setting, setting a specific or vague date of the return of Christ, is pretty obvious, despite that, many date-setters twist scripture to justify their disobedience. "Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come -- Matthew 24 "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only ." -- Matthew 24:36 "Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." -- Matthew 25:13 "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father " -- Mark 13:32 "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night." -- 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 "When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time res...

Author of the Gospel

Jesus said it true, not speaking of Himself, but by the ordination and the power of God, He laid down His life for us. Those so those would follow Him to the cross, would in turn share the beauty of what God the Father has done for us yesterday, today and forever, in doing so saving souls from an eternal hell. Unfortunately we as a Christ-professing (as opposed to confessing) society have delivered a ministry of condemnation to an unbelieving society. Before I delve into what the Author of the Gospel portrayed as the Firstfruit of the resurrection, let me first share the words of Paul who, also is an supernatural example of the trendy term "Christ-follower". Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in st...

A "Worship Renewal" of Apostasy

Image
As of late, there has been quite a bit of talk on my blog about church today. Where it is in the history of "time". The need for physical fellowship. Apostasy from sound doctrine. So naturally this article immediately grabbed my attention. Read this article and tell me if we do not need to reevaluate everything that is considered "Christian" in today's society. Please pay special attention to what pastors and reverends are saying as well. My comments are in blue. Underlined texts are the sentiments I am responding to. The following article is: By Jacqueline L. Salmon Evangelicals' new twist on Lent Catholic traditions adopted as 'worship renewal' Evangelicals observing Lent? Fasting, and giving up chocolate and favorite pastimes like watching TV during the 40 days before Easter are practices many evangelical Protestants have long rejected as too Catholic and unbiblical. But Lent -- a time of inner cleansing and reflection upon Jesus Christ 's ...
