Leper's Law

Some of you may wonder, how it is I get my church since I'm not a member of an organization. I'm blessed to be married to a man who loves the Lord, just as much, if not more than I do. Through him, my husband, is where I've came to be the woman that I am in the Lord. He, (husband) has been (one of) the instrument in the molding, shaping of my faith. Teaching, me about bible study, and the tools for further clarification (concordance, bible dictionary etc.). Not only is he my family and my friend. He is my church. And I love him beyond words can say. He has been and is the Lord's provision for my walk in faith on this earth!

Yesterday, we were sharing in the Word. Praising and glorifying the Lord. He shared with me something that I've always known, but it was put in a way that was so relevant. I wanted to share here in this blog.

A bit of history first. My husband has studied the New Testament for years now, and he is focusing his attention on the Old Testament. He started reading Leviticus 13 (59 verses long) and 14 (57 verses long), the law of leprosy. If you take a look and read only a few verses, you will see that this chapter is long, detailed and repetitive. My husband confessed to me that he could never seem to finish that chapter in spite of his best intentions. He would fall asleep. And attempt to read it again and fall asleep. This chapter details the law in where one, who has leprosy, must do in order to be cleansed, in the time of Moses.

My husband happened to be discussing the 7th chapter of Luke with his father the other day. When, thinking about his attempts to read about and be knowledgeable of Leviticus 13 and 14. He read this verse:
  • Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John (the Baptist) what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. Luke 7:22 (my italics and clarification of John)

This is the liberty found in Christ, the burdensome requirements of being cleansed. He gives a spiritual cleansing that was done through His blood, thus freeing us from the leprous disease of sin. Being diseased with sin, causing a separation from the Father, but through His blood shed sacrifice we are restored through him by faith!

  • For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John 1:17

Praise, honor and glory to the Lord of Hosts almighty! His grace has been manifested through His Son. May every knee bow, in heaven and on the earth and hail the power of His name!

    Hannah,

    I'm Catholic and I must confess that although I am a firm believer of God, I do not religiously go to church to hear mass. I satisfy my need to be in the house of God with my twice a week "visit" at St. Joseph's. I go there when no one else is there because I feel that I am one with God. But not hearing mass doesn't make me less of a believer. My faith in Him is what keeps me above water.
    I also like to read the Left Behind Series! The last book I read was The Mark and I haven't read the other ones since I left for the Philippines. Now that I'm back in the U.S., I no longer have time to read books. I'll be visiting again!

    Thank you for sharing that with me! Creating this blog was "step out" for me. Being uncertain, on how I, as a non church going believer would be accepted. It is my hope to change or at least "shake up" the mind set that one needs to go to church to be saved. I have found that I've become a more "effective" witness to those who do not believe, as they feel they can relate to my non church member status... Thanks again!

    Hi Hannah, It's Shalene. I was just perusing your blog, and I know you know how I view church, but my church is unfortunately and exception to the rule. See you are ministering to non-believers after all. Maybe even making a few conversions..... Love In Him, Your Sister In Christ.

Translation vs. Paraphrase

Up until about four years ago, I studied primarily out of the New Living Translation. It was simple to read and I was comfortable with it. However, I did notice through out my studying in that specific translation, that passages just weren't making any sense. My husband preferred the King James Version and studied out of that, our studying together almost always ended out of the KJV version for the simple fact that the NLT was not adequate in conveying some of the principles of the Word. My husband, at that time worked for Tyndale House Publishing (which publishes the NLT version) gave me a Bible published by them called "The People's Parallel Edition".
