Salt of the Earth

About a month ago I went on a fact finding mission about salt, and what I have discovered has been nothing short of a renewing in thought about refined and unrefined salt. I wrote a post on it on my second blog, Its Your Journey titled Is Table Salt Giving Salt a Bad Name?
Here’s the rundown; refined salt, also known as table salt or “purified” salt has been processed to strip the salt of it’s natural minerals, leaving only sodium chloride. Sodium chloride is known to be aggressive without its natural counterparts, such as potassium, calcium and other minerals found in unrefined salt. Needless to say sodium chloride taken in large amounts has led to the belief that salt is bad and should be limited or removed completely from our diets.
The truth of the matter is salt in its wholesomeness is the very essence of life without it, we would not be able to function or think. Salt, unrefined, is what hydrates a body, taken with water it is the perfect balance of hydration. As a matter of fact our blood and tears have a salty solution in them. Salt is GOOD and vital for life.
With an enlightened mind, I’m reading Mark 9:50 with new eyes…
Salt 217 [is] good 2570: but 1161 if 1437 the salt 217 have lost 1096his saltness 358, wherewith 1722 5101 will ye season 741 it 846? Have2192 salt 217 in 1722 yourselves 1438, and 2532 have peace 1514 one240 0 with 1722 another 240.
Because salt was considered a bad thing scriptures that spoke to the goodness of salt was disconnected to the reality I thought I understood.
Salt refined has literally lost its “saltness”, in other words it’s worth. To use it is unhealthy, even dangerous at best. It’s good for nothing.
I chuckle a little when I write this because, I decided to switch to sea salt a few years back, because I figured then, that “natural” was better than table salt. So I haven’t used table salt in quite a few years. However, my husband has been buying table salt during the cold winter months to defrost our sidewalks and driveways. We figured, it was cheap, only 33 cents at Wal-Mart, and left behind very little mess. We definitely weren’t going to use it for our food, so why not use it for our driveway?
I will be blogging a bit more about this subject as let my newfound knowledge soak in :)
Let me leave you with these scriptures about salt. Leave a comment if you will as the Spirit moves you to!
Ye 5210 are 2075 the salt 217 of the earth 1093: but 1161 if 1437 the salt 217 have lost his savour 3471 , wherewith 1722 5101 shall it be salted 233 ? it is thenceforth 2089 good 2480 for 1519 nothing 3762, but 1508 to be cast 906 out 1854, and 2532 to be trodden under foot2662 of 5259 men 444. – Matthew 5:13
Salt 217 [is] good 2570: but 1161 if 1437 the salt 217 have lost his savour 3471 , wherewith 1722 5101 shall it be seasoned 741 ? – Luke 14:34
Let your 5216 speech 3056 [be] alway 3842 with 1722 grace 5485, seasoned 741 with salt 217, that ye may know 1492 how 4459 ye 5209ought 1163 to answer 611 every 1538 man 1520. – Colosians 4:6

The subscripts in scripture are numbers to the Greek Lexicon. For references on refined vs. unrefined salt, please see my post on Its Your Journey or click on the link at the beginning of the post. God Bless :)

  1. Salt unrefined has literally lost its “saltness”, in other words it’s worth.

Ooops! I meant to say "Salt REFINED has literally lost its "saltness"..."

The correction will be made in the post shortly. This is for those who receive my posts by email :)
