The Theory Behind the Rhetoric

I must confess, with the completion of the presidential campaign my viewpoint of Christian Republicans have changed...and not for the better. Let me back track a bit, when George Bush was running for president in 2000 and 2004. The general consensus of white Evangelists (the backers of GWB and John McCain) was this, 1. GWB was a praying president and a born-again Christian 2. GWB was against abortion Therefore, GWB was the Christian's president. Because of this, I was told it was my "Christian duty" to vote (for GWB). I was also told, or... I should say, it was implied that those who voted democratic were not Christian. "How can anyone who calls themselves Christian vote for someone who is for abortion?" is the rhetorical question of this group. They claim to fear, or concern themselves with the "moral" direction that America is heading. They pride themselves on the American history, the fact that it was founded by "Christian" f

God Told Me...

The problem with date-setting, setting a specific or vague date of the return of Christ, is pretty obvious, despite that, many date-setters twist scripture to justify their disobedience. "Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come -- Matthew 24 "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only ." -- Matthew 24:36 "Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." -- Matthew 25:13 "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father " -- Mark 13:32 "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night." -- 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 "When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time res

Can Date-Setting Be Justified?

This post is a re-posting of a portion of my post titled " The Days of Noe ". I've decided to repost this portion of it, because the original post was long and I wasn't sure anyone would read it in it's entirety. :) Also, I feel compelled and have been for a long while, to post on the subject of "date-setting". In  a combination of a tense campaign for the next U.S. president and the collapse of the American economy (as well as many other "seasonal" symptoms) end-timers and evangelists are working up a frenzy and as a result, "date-setters" are now in place. On Another Note... I wanted to speak on a different subject that is related to Matthew 24:38 referencing the days of Noah. In the context of this scripture, Christ responds to the disciples' questions of " the sign of thy coming and the end of the world", using the day of Noah as an example of the suddenness of when He shall return. Personally, I believe, Chris

The Days of Noe

What is normal? Many times over the course of this life I have heard this term. Most recently I've heard this term describing a type of "day", in other words, normal days. The dictionary definition of normal stands as this: 1. conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural. 2. serving to establish a standard Dictionary.com Who decides what's normal? Who establishes the standard or the common type? "Normal" for a person can be defined by how they were raised. Habits, choices and lifestyles are dictated by what one views or believe as "normal". What is clear to me in this day, age and time of Christianity is a declaration of "normality" is given over to the experts of our time. Be it pastors, doctors, teachers etc. Generally, they tell us what is "normal" and by their measuring stick we judge where normalcy comes in. The problem with what we may consider normal is that it may not actually be

More Than Gold

For the past week I have been wondering what to post about. I would decide on a subject, start typing and then lose the inspiration for the post. But today it has never been more clear to me. As the economy is in a downward spiral and the doom and gloom of end-timers sound off a chorus of soon imending wrath of God and the end of America as we know it, I will praise Him. I praise the Lord God for indeed He is worthy to be praised! I declare of Him and His Works. He has sheltered me and mine! I declare of His mercy for indeed has He has shown me His loving-kindness. Too many times today's Christian count material wealth as blessings and "proof" of the Lord's acceptance of their works-rich lifestyle. With America's financial system threatened, I have been blessed with peace and faith, more precious than gold...what this economy cannot take from me. I praise Him! Worthy is the Lord of Hosts! All you who wait upon Him Faithfully, praise His Holy name! Sent from my T-M

45 Years ago, He Had A Dream

As an African American, I cannot express the contentment and interal joy I have watching an historical phenomenon come to pass, as a child I have always been inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. As an adult, I can appreciate, the profound wisdom, talent and insight, of this man and his vision for the future. 45 years ago, he spoke of a dream that seemed so far fetched and unattainable of his time. Truly it wasn't a dream...it was hope. This man inspired thousands with this hope. As I watch Barack Obama conjure 1st time voters out of the woodwork, its more than a dream fulfilled...it is hope renewed. This is attraction of Obama. The same magnetic pull Martin Luther King possessed...hope. I'm watching people dancing and chanting as they await Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention. I realize something vital...ALL people NEED hope. They WANT hope. No matter how dire a prospect or situation looks hope, is always there. In this light, Modern day Christians, who SHOUL

Gospel 101

There is a sentiment among Christians that I must confess disturbs me to my core. I have heard this sentiment several times around forms and comments that I am compelled to speak about here. It is the idea, that unbelievers must "change or give up their lifestyle" to be saved. "They don't want to give up their lifestyle" Does this statement sound familiar to you? Maybe you have stated it yourself. I have heard statements of this sentiment repeatedly. It has never sat well with me. This sentiment not only conveys an attitude of arrogance towards the unbelieving society, but shows a profound lack of understanding of what exactly the Gospel entails. Gospel 101 Today's Christian society is so upside down and inside out with pseudo doctrines and sayings that the Gospel has become something un-relatable to the unbelieving society.  Because it is un-relatable, it never been easier to brush aside the message of grace as it presented, distorted and full

Where Have I Been?

The past two weeks I have been "given to hospitality". My uncle has been staying with us from California. He has been such a blessing and a wonderful houseguest to have. It was sad to see him go! That's what I have been up to the past two weeks :) I am working on my next post and should be up within a day or two. Please feel free to check out the archives for older posts, as well my FAQ sidebar. As school starts next week, I suspect my posts will be less frequent until I can get into a school groove but, goal is to prevent that from happening, so I'll be doing my very best to set time aside for posting. My firstborn starts as a freshman in high school and my oldest son (3 0f 6) begins Kindergarten. It will prove to be a busy week! I would like to give a "shout out" to my baby girl Roxannah (2 0f 6) who turned 7 on August 15th. And to my baby boy Ezekiel (4 0f 6) who turned 4 August 20th. Happy Birthday babies! I love you so much!!!

A Thought to Share

I was visiting a brother-in-Christ's site and commented on a post he had on Obama. I wanted to share my thoughts here on this post. In light of the general Christian perspective on Obama, and the election of our next presidential candidate, here are my thoughts on the matter. If we believe in a risen Messiah who has saved us unto eternal salvation, then we know all is temporal. If we believe that our Christ will return on high, then we live as foreigners on earth. Knowing this, we are alive and well during the end times, we know what the eventual end of America will be. No one elected will form America into moral correctness or purity. It is a fantasy and one not in alignment with the Gospel. We have suffered through 8 years under George W. Bush "rule". We all know what group elected him into office, America has not gotten any better morally... proving without a doubt the manifestation of the Word, "That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the po

The Lies We Tell

When I was a babe in Christ, fumbling my way around the Word, there was a major issue I need to confront...the lies I told myself. When confronted with Faith, or my lack thereof, I would deny, in the face of evidence, the weakness of my budding Faith. To the detriment of spiritual growth, I would excuse my impromptu speech and/or action, that conveyed the very essence of doubt, the true source of the evil that exists in the world. Hebrews 3:12 If we should not bear false witness against another, as an express command of the Lord ( Exodus 20:16 ), how much worse is our false witness to ourselves, when the Holy God considers ALL without excuse? "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood

The Righteousness of Self

There are many frightful things in today's society. Guns and people with guns. TV shows can be a scary thing for a parent. Commercials alone can be considered soft porn. Driving can be extremely fearful when you consider accidents and road rage. Maybe you have a certain phobia that you struggle with. As a child, the zoo was a scary place for me, even though I LOVED the zoo. I always had that lingering fear in the back of mind, "What if the lion breaks out of its cage?". I was constantly composing an escape route at every animal house, despite the fact I was completely entranced by their existence. As an adult I put those fears away...sort of :) When I discovered the truth of my sin I was no longer deceived by it (my departure from the living God Hebrews 4:13-14). When I took the cup of salvation made by the blood of Christ, I was set free, and the law of the Lord was written upon my heart. It is in this adult stage I've developed a different kind of phobia, the righte

Author of the Gospel

Jesus said it true, not speaking of Himself, but by the ordination and the power of God, He laid down His life for us. Those so those would follow Him to the cross, would in turn share the beauty of what God the Father has done for us yesterday, today and forever, in doing so saving souls from an eternal hell. Unfortunately we as a Christ-professing (as opposed to confessing) society have delivered a ministry of condemnation to an unbelieving society. Before I delve into what the Author of the Gospel portrayed as the Firstfruit of the resurrection, let me first share the words of Paul who, also is an supernatural example of the trendy term "Christ-follower". Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in st

A Fearless Blogger

Image
I was reading some news on the Internet tonight and came across this article about a blogger from Kabul, Afghanistan, who is a, lone, independent voice in the country. He blogs his thoughts and feelings about the country in spite of threats of violence. He has been even been jailed for expressing his views, his name is Nasim Fekrat. Here's an excerpt from his blog: "When I was very young I used to write a bit about the world – my world and the world around me. Then, with access to new technology and the Internet, I started to learn about many new things. Soon, I remember hearing the word ‘blog’ being used in my English class. I found the first Farsi blog service. And an old friend of mine showed me his blog. It made a big impression on me. By 2004, I was running my own satire and cartoon magazine. But it was shut down by fundamentalist Islamiists. I couldn't write using my real name anymore. For a few months, I was in trouble and had to keep moving around.

What's Going On In London??

A few years ago, I discovered a wonderful ministry by Zola Levitt, a Messianic Jew or in other words a Jewish Christian. I have been a regular reader of his free newsletters up until I moved two and half years ago. However, I frequent his website and occasionally catch the show. Zola Levitt is now with the Lord and his Savior. I miss reading his witty humor and supernatural answers in defending the faith and his beloved Israel. Reading the latest newsletter, August 2008, I found a disturbing comment in the "Ask Zola" section. Please read below... -------Start------ Takeover of Britain Continues Dear Staff, Greetings. I receive the monthly Levitt Letter in England, where it used to but no longer arrives in an envelope. Just the other day, two American-born Christians giving out literature were arrested by Muslim police. As you know, ours is daily becoming more and more like a police state. On two accounts, I have found my Levitt Letter ripped open and tampered wi
